Pension La Cubana

The location is good, and it could be a really nice, authentic place to stay. The staff were smiling, which I appreciated, but I found mold in my room (5) and messaged to ask for a room change. Nobody replied, even days after I’d left. I left in the morning, and it was already afternoon, with nobody in the building since reception is only open in the morning. I really didn’t sleep well. I think mold is the number one reason for a refund, but I wasn’t asking for one, just for a reply.

If you like antiques, the place has a lovely look and feel. It’s friendly too. I hope to visit again.

The managers were friendly and really wanted guests to be happy. One of them even anticipated that I might have a problem with my room and moved me to another, which I was grateful for. I hadn’t realized the first room might be an issue yet, but he was right. The pension is small, affordable, and full of character, with a perfect spot in the heart of Old Santa Cruz, just steps from everything. My room had two beds, bedside tables, lamps, a wash basin, and all the other expected basics. There are two spacious shared bathrooms, both immaculately clean. The old Santa Cruz house has plenty of character, with wooden stairs, balconies, and little corners where you can sit and relax. It’s a short walk from the bus and ferry terminals, and the location is very central. There’s a Spa supermarket nearby that closes at 8 pm, plus cafés and bars. It’s reasonably priced, but it isn’t luxury. The shared bathrooms are clean and there are enough of them. Rooms vary: some have balcony views, while others are inside with no windows. There’s also a lounge where you can go to read or chat.
