Hotel Sultan

The location is great, under 5 minutes from the beach and close to bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops where we got water and snacks. I’d recommend the hotel and area to friends and family looking for somewhere nice in a great spot. We had a few of the best days here. The rooms were basic but had what we needed, and were tidy, clean, and air conditioned. You pay extra for a fridge and safe, but we didn’t mind and just bought cold water from the shops. Staff were helpful, pleasant to talk to, and explained everything well. The outdoor pool was fine, though small, and the bar was closed. That didn’t bother us since we were out at the beach most days and brought our own drinks. Breakfast was nice, with bacon, eggs, toast, beans, cereal, pastries, fruit, and hot drinks and juice from the machines.

The rooms were clean and looked after, just as advertised, and the few times we spoke with staff they were quick and polite. We chose the hotel because we needed something affordable in Can Picafort in peak August, and it turned out to be very good value. It’s close to the nicer stretch of beach and the main restaurants. The balcony view was nice, though the balcony itself was a bit raunchy, and there’s also a pool across the street. You need to know the extras: WiFi isn’t available and the fridge costs extra. For what we paid, it was even better than expected. We’d stay again.

The best thing about this hotel is how close it is to the sea. Everything else left us very disappointed, especially after paying 3,700 € for three people for two weeks, plus extra fees. At breakfast, there was only fried egg, no boiled egg. The drinks came from old vending machines, the juice was watered down, and the coffee used tap water. We often had stomach pain afterwards and needed to get to the toilet quickly. When I wanted to bring two pieces of watermelon to my room because health problems make me dizzy, staff stopped me and spoke rudely. Earlier, kitchen staff had reached into our bag and taken a package containing our belongings. We’d only put two buns in the bag. If food from breakfast can’t be taken away, they could have said so without taking our things. The room was stuffy for the first two nights, and it was hard to breathe or sleep. It hadn’t been properly prepared for guests, and there was an unpleasant plumbing smell. The fridge either didn’t work or required an extra payment, and a kettle also cost extra at reception. Staff never smiled and seemed to hate everyone. The service was terrible. For us, the hotel wasn’t worth the money.

Breakfast was so bad that we tried it once and bought breakfast elsewhere every day after that. The drinks came from old machines, and the sausage and cheese looked unappealing. The pool bar was also closed, despite being promised. The room had a dirty bathroom when we arrived, and the beds weren’t joined together. The fridge wasn’t included, and it was filthy and rusty. We stayed for seven days with breakfast and pool access included, traveling from Vienna. We knew the place only had two stars, but in our view it didn’t deserve even those. On our last day, after we’d bought drinks at the hotel bar one evening, I asked for a cup with two ice cubes for our warm water. The staff member refused rudely and said I could buy something at the bar to get ice. I can’t believe someone wouldn’t give us two cubes. I’ll also tell our travel agency they shouldn’t offer this hotel anymore.
