Flip Flop Surfing Playa Apartments

The staff were warm and helpful, and when the kettle turned out to be a strange two-part thing that didn’t work, they replaced it straight away. We had a good time here, and the apartments are spacious and clean for the price. The double beds were comfortable, the TV was fine, and we brought an Amazon Fire Stick for evenings and rainy days. The pool was clean with plenty of loungers. It’s all stairs, with no lift, which was fine for us. There’s no laundry facility, but we weren’t expecting one. The beach is walkable, though this isn’t beachfront. You may catch a glimpse of the sea between the trees from a higher room if you request one. You get what you pay for, and this place doesn’t claim to be five star. I can’t fault it for what it is, and the bad reviews seem over the top. It suited us just fine. If you want five star luxury, there’s an H10 about a mile away for three times the price.

There’s no restaurant or bar at the hotel, which made the long wait after arrival even less comfortable. We got there around noon to leave our bags and paid the tourist tax. They asked us to return at 15:00, but when we came back Jose said the room would need another 90 minutes. Later, Jose and manager Hugo both stressed that check-in was “from 15:00,” not at 15:00, even though the room was still unavailable well after then. We also asked for pool towels while waiting and were told there’d be a €5 fee plus a deposit. Given the inconvenience, I felt they could at least have done that to make things right. During our four days, the towels were never changed and there was no housekeeping. They were thin to begin with, and with the seaside setting we showered at least once daily, so they soon became uncomfortable to use. It took three days to speak with the manager. He eventually agreed to a one-hour late checkout, but an employee who didn’t know about it disturbed us 15 minutes after the original checkout time. The property itself is acceptable, but the service felt indifferent and basic amenities were lacking. The overall guest experience fell well short of expectations.

The room looked like the advert and the place itself was really nice. The reception team were pleasant, and Lahseen was especially kind. But the shower kept changing from cold to scalding hot, which is why I’ve given two stars. We asked them to fix it and nothing was offered. We were told all the rooms have the same problem. They also said someone would come clean our room, but nobody showed up.

The pool is closed during winter, unfortunately. The place was clean and nice, the apartments had enough room for a couple with kids, and the staff were great. English was no problem.
