Melia Cala d'Or Boutique Hotel

Stefan welcomed us with a smile, checked us in and showed us around. He went above and beyond during our stay, as did the rest of the reception team, who helped with taxis, directions and maps. We were greeted with a cold glass of champagne in the pretty, peaceful seating area behind reception, and the children got cold drinks too. Hand on heart, this was the perfect hotel for our family of two adults and children aged 13 and 9. There was very little to fault, and the kids had a great time. It may not suit families looking for loads of children's activities, but it's a peaceful choice with lovely food and a touch of luxury, especially for families with older kids. The pool was lovely, with flowers growing above it, and we could usually find sunbeds unless we came down after about 10:30. Food from the pool bar was fantastic and could be brought right to the loungers. We also enjoyed the evening meals and the wide breakfast selection. Breakfast was delicious, and the chefs will cook eggs how you like them if you ask. They did tend to seem grumpy, though. The other waiting staff were very helpful, especially one slightly older woman whose name I didn't catch. She had everything under control and made us feel welcome. Our room was comfortable and well equipped for four, with a terrace overlooking the pool. The air conditioning kept it cool, and the beds and pillows were great. The children felt cold with the bedding, and I would have liked proper quilts for them, though I'm sure staff could have sorted that if we'd asked. I also wish there'd been a brighter place to do my makeup. The bathroom light wasn't enough, so balancing my bag and mirror outside was awkward.

The grounds at Melia Cala d’Or Boutique Hotel were beautifully kept, full of greenery and flowers, and made for a really restful stay. Although the setting is peaceful, the hotel is right in Cala d’Or, so beaches, restaurants and the town centre are only a couple of minutes away on foot. No public transport needed. With 55 rooms, it felt intimate and calm. There was no crowding or breakfast rush, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was excellent too. I've stayed in countless hotels as an independent travel agent, and this one stood out for how relaxing it felt. Some people might find it a little outdated, but I thought that added charm. It felt like a grand old villa, with spacious rooms and just a few rooms in each building, giving a sense of privacy and seclusion. Everything was spotless, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the rooms had all the handy amenities we needed. A lovely place to recharge in beautiful surroundings without feeling isolated.

The shallow children's pool and the other young kids around made this a great stay for our 18-month-old. We also liked that it’s a boutique hotel, so it never felt too busy. The staff were all great, and the whole place was lovely and relaxing, a welcome calm spot in a busy, hectic town.

The staff, from the front desk to the pool and breakfast kitchen, were exceptional and made our stay wonderful. Breakfast was a real pleasure too, with plenty of choice and good quality. Saturday's entertainment was a highlight: the pianist at breakfast and the singer by the pool were both a treat. We hope to come back soon. We absolutely loved this hotel. Its pool and surrounding area were the standout for me, and I could happily have spent the whole stay there. The location is excellent, close enough to walk to the beach and restaurants but just far enough from the bustle. It has an old-school charm alongside modern features, a perfect combination.
