The sunset views are a real highlight here, with the sun dropping into the Atlantic and the Los Gigantes cliffs nearby adding to the dramatic coastline. Playa de la Arena sits in Puerto de Santiago, within Santiago del Teide, and has a small, intimate feel, framed by volcanic cliffs and palm-lined promenades. Its fine black volcanic sand looks striking against the deep blue water, though it can get very hot at midday. The beach has a Blue Flag for its clean water, safety and facilities.
On our first Tenerife trip, we stayed in the next town and did things on a budget. We walked all the way to the harbour to have a look around, and at AL HOP my partner bought a lovely pair of silk pyjamas. After that, we went to the bakery for Toffee Apple 🍎.
The soft volcanic sand and turquoise water make this beach feel special. It was clean and peaceful when I visited, a lovely place to relax and take photos. Definitely a Tenerife spot worth seeing.
Restaurants and a supermarket are close by, and there’s a building with toilets and changing rooms. The indoor showers no longer work, though there are two outdoor ones for rinsing off salt and sand. It’s a really clean black-sand beach, with lifeguard and beach staff on duty. Sun loungers and umbrellas cost 5€ each for the day, until 6:30 pm in summer or 5:30 pm in winter.
I pulled over one evening while still on the road, hoping for a swim and a sunset. Ended up staying late, feeling recharged, and kicking a ball around with the kids. Such a cool time.
