The bathroom had a definite unpleasant smell, even though the staff couldn’t detect it. Breakfast felt rushed, and used-up food wasn’t replenished. It was also very busy and noisy with a coach party there.

The historic feel and very helpful service are real pluses, but there’s a noisy main road right outside. With a street-facing room, using the small outdoor pool and sleeping with the window open means hearing the traffic; the rooms at the back are quiet and are the ones I’d suggest. The indoor pool and spa are only open from 16-21:00 and cost extra. At breakfast we missed having scrambled or fried eggs, though we could order them at no extra charge. There were no vegetables at all, and the restaurant food was okay.

We slept really well and had a lovely dinner in this nice hotel, which has spacious rooms. The one catch was finding out the pool and spa cost an extra €18 per person, something that hadn’t been mentioned when we booked. I’d still come back.
