Sunway Amapola Apartamentos

Having to carry suitcases across town after a long flight with kids made check-in awful. The location is 500m from check-in, and there’s no transport provided. That wasn’t clear from what I’d booked. With just a backpack it might be fine. Staff explained it with no apology, saying it was “better than it used to be.” That seems typical of Sitges customer service. If you’re used to that attitude, you’ll know what to expect, but anyone with ordinary expectations for service should stay elsewhere. The pool also looked like it hadn’t been cleaned recently.

The apartment was basic but had what we expected, including a good-sized fridge and freezer, two hobs, and a microwave. The bedding was uncomfortable against the scratchy blankets, so we needed extra sheets, and another pillow or two would have helped. The pool was fine, though chilly as expected, but the kids’ pool had no water. We’d booked because it was described as central and family friendly. The location was good, though not central, and the walk along the beach into the main part of town was lovely. On arrival there was no reception. Luckily, housekeeping told us to walk another 1 km to Hotel Platja de Golf to get the key. The bigger problem was the groups of men in the apartments making quite a bit of noise. They sat on the balconies staring at people in the pool, and I didn’t feel it was safe for my family to use it. It didn’t feel family friendly at all. I love Sitges, which is a fantastic town, but these apartments need a few changes to feel safer and more welcoming.

The pool looked more like a construction site, and water was dripping through the ceiling. There was a lot of noise from upstairs, and the Wi-Fi wouldn’t reach the room or anywhere around the building. I stayed in “Mustapha”. Reception was a 28 minute walk away, with no shuttle or taxi provided. The apartment was very sparse, with only the bare necessities and little comfort.

Collecting the keys meant a 3 kilometer walk to the hotel, which was no joke. The bedroom felt tight for three people, even though it had a huge double wardrobe, and there wasn’t enough full-length hanging space. This was advertised as a family apartment. The complex has just one pool and six sunbeds, so getting one is a fight. It wasn’t brilliant, and I won’t be back anytime soon. I’d avoid it.
