From what I’ve read, visits can be arranged by phone appointment. The castle belongs to a private owner. It’s in good condition, complete and restored, though it seems to have been rebuilt in several stages. It isn’t very large. It was built to guard the route between the Amblés Valley and the Paramera mountain range.
We found it closed, but it looks to be in good shape from outside. It’s in the village, and there’s a boar sculpture in the square that’s easy to spot. Close by, the washhouse and its fountain are very well preserved.
A magical place! The Águila family split into branches, and this castle was the lordship of one of them. Nuño González del Águila y Guzmán had it built between the 15th and 16th centuries to guard the passage from the Amblés Valley to the Paramera mountain range. “Sancho Estrada Castle”
You can only see the Castle from outside, since it’s permanently closed. Still, it’s worth going to see in person.
It’s a lovely area, but the property is for sale, so visitors can’t go in anymore.
