BLUESEA Don Jaime

I’ve stayed here twice now, and honestly I miss it. You get attached to the staff when they serve you every day, and they’re lovely. When I locked myself out, reception gave us another key straight away and told me not to worry. I offered to pay, but the receptionist waved it off and said it was fine. The rooms are spacious, cleaned daily, and the towels are changed. There’s just one socket in a standard room, so bring a plug with more than one charging slot. The showers are great, with a good flow and always hot water. It’s very close to the beach, restaurants and everything you need along the seafront. I paid £230 for four nights, for two people, with all-you-can-drink and three meals a day, so I wasn’t expecting much. But the food had good variety, was tasty, and there was nothing to complain about: rice, fish, stews, chicken and pork, plus breakfast with pastries, cereal, a full English and toast. I got fed up with other people’s attitudes about the food. One woman near me said the rice was bland, meaning plain boiled rice, and I had to get up because I was sick of hearing people complain. There was so much I couldn’t understand what people found to grumble about. They even sell little adapters on Temu for 1.20, or one you can attach three of them to for 80p. I’m planning to come back in a couple of months.

The hotel’s evening entertainment wasn’t really to our taste, though it seemed well organised and would probably suit people who enjoy that kind of thing. We had a clean, well-kept room, which gave us peace of mind with our young child. The pool was shockingly cold. We managed to swim twice for around 10 minutes each time before our 14-month-old baby’s lips turned blue. We preferred the beach, where the sea was much warmer and better for little ones. The hotel food was edible but very repetitive, with little variation from one day to the next, so we ate out quite a lot. Luckily there are many lovely shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. The staff were absolutely lovely, always friendly, helpful and welcoming. Bluesea Don Jaime in Cala Millor is in a stunning, convenient location, just a five-minute walk from the beautiful beach. It was a generally pleasant stay, with a few things to keep in mind. If you’re happy to eat out fairly often and prefer the beach to the pool, it’s a solid choice, especially for families wanting to explore Cala Millor.

We love coming back to this hotel every year, and plan to keep doing so. It has a relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are hard-working, friendly and always cheerful. The rooms and hotel are clean, and there’s plenty of choice at mealtimes to find something you like. There isn’t much entertainment, but there are so many bars close by that it doesn’t bother us. You get what you pay for.

The fire alarm went off and took 45 minutes to silence. Staff showed no urgency, and nobody came to reassure us. On top of that, someone tried to get into our room, but the phone to reception wasn't connected. They seemed surprised when we said we weren't on holiday with someone who spoke the same language. There were plenty of other problems: the food was shocking, and towels and cups both needed deposits. You had to pay for the safe. The patio doors wouldn't lock, the air conditioning leaked in several rooms, and the pool had black mould. Some sun loungers were broken, and the entertainment wasn't on every night. You could hear other rooms flushing toilets and showering. Parts of the bathroom were missing, as were tiles on the balcony. Cleaners even asked whether we wanted the room cleaned. The best part of the holiday was the journey home. Avoid, avoid, avoid!
