Hotel Cortabitarte

Marcos at reception was warm and helpful, and his English made things much easier since my Spanish is limited. The room was quiet, spotless, and laid out cleverly to make good use of the space. It's also right in the centre. I'd happily recommend staying here.

The location and parking were the hotel's strongest points. The rooms have all been refurbished, though they felt a bit corporate, and they're on the small side. The glass toilet doors were an odd choice. After staff had left, the main entrance wouldn't open without a lot of force, so it clearly needs attention. Breakfast turned out to be a bit of a laugh. The garage-like room had almost no service, and I felt bad for the woman working there. The pastry was warm and nice, but the atmosphere was awful. I had to ask for an omelet because nothing else was available, and they seemed totally unprepared.

The rooms are tiny, with hardly any room to move, and ours faced a noisy, crowded main street. The quality was very poor. I wouldn't recommend it at all. There must be better places to stay.

We won't return, and we're going to file a formal complaint. Our group was travelling from different parts of Spain, and with yellow and orange rain and snow alerts in place, we asked to move the reservation to another date. We weren't even asking for a refund, but they refused despite our insistence and pleading. It was a situation outside our control that made us cancel the trip. Keeping our reservation money instead of giving us a reason to come back felt inhumane to me. These are the kinds of details that determine whether people return or recommend a place. They clearly don't understand how this industry works.
