Parador De Soria

Soria has a pretty old town and plenty of old churches, but there isn't much else to do, with limited shopping, for example. Since we're not especially interested in churches, we were done with the town by morning and took a long walk along the river after lunch. I think we'd have been bored with more than two nights, or one full day. We stayed Thursday 11/9/27 for two nights. Our room was clean and spacious, with an enclosed balcony and a stunning view over the river Douro. Parking was tight because of the hotel's location, and we sometimes had to park a short walk away. The walk back up to the hotel is steep. Check-in was easy, although we were told off for arriving 15 minutes before the official time. We were half board and had lunch at the hotel on arrival. The meals were mixed. The bar lunch and drinks were good, but breakfast and dinner were only OK. At breakfast, you order cooked dishes from the server and help yourself to the cold items. We've stayed at a lot of Paradors, and this was one of the more disappointing meals. The staff were friendly and nice, but service in the bar was slow and the dining room team didn't seem trained for that work. What we ordered didn't always match what we got. I ordered the same dessert on two nights and received completely different things. I often try local dishes without knowing exactly what to expect, but I can tell different kinds of meat apart 😊 It's a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting, but staffing efficiency and training, along with the food, let it down. It had the potential to be a fabulous stay.
