Hotel Catalunya Express

The receptionist shouted at me and my guest, and refused to let me have an occasional visitor even though they had registered with proper ID. I couldn’t get his name, the manager’s name, or an email address or phone number. When I asked about the hotel’s visitor policy, he said there was no company policy and that visitors simply weren’t allowed, even with proper ID. He physically came at me when I challenged him. He was aggressive, dismissive and completely unprofessional, with no customer skills at all, and I suspect racism may have been involved. If you’re travelling solo, good luck if you run into him. It’s disgraceful that someone with such anger issues is representing the hotel. I may have met the infamous rude receptionist people talk about, the short, stocky man with the unkempt beard.

The walls are so thin you can hear every footstep. The guy at reception was rude. I politely asked him to speak English, but he kept shouting at us in Spanish in a passive-aggressive way. Also, the hotel doesn’t provide parking, despite what the listing says. They send you to a public lot about 500 metres away that felt rather shady. I won’t be coming back.

The sea and city centre were both close by. Our room was clean and cosy, and the staff were lovely and friendly to everyone. We had a very nice stay.

Our room was small but lovely and very clean. We really enjoyed staying here, and it was great that we could leave our luggage for free after checking out.
