Hotel SB Ciutat Tarragona

The location was convenient, about 20 minutes from the beach and 15 from the city center, and parking was a plus at €17 per day. Still, our one-night stay wasn't a good experience. For a four-star hotel, I expected better: the sink was completely clogged, there was mold in the bathroom, strange stains on the walls and bedside lamps, and the window handle was broken. The cleaning staff knocked at 11:01 a.m. and asked us to leave so they could clean, even though checkout wasn't until noon. Not a great start to the day. This doesn't feel worth four stars. We've stayed in two-star hotels that were much better.

The lift waits were frustratingly long, and the air conditioning didn't work, so the room was extremely uncomfortable, especially at night. The towels looked dirty and worn out and were very poor quality. The room we were given was dirty too, and the bathroom was unacceptable. The toilet hadn't been properly cleaned, with pee all over it. Hotel SB Ciutat Tarragona didn't meet even basic standards for cleanliness, comfort or service. I can't recommend it, even for one night.

The room was spacious enough and clean, but it was much too hot to sleep comfortably because the AC didn't work. Both beds had uncomfortable mattresses, and the second was even worse, while the main bed's mattress was very hard. The gym isn't really a gym: there's no space or weights, just a running machine, stationary bike and elliptical. The rooftop pool is very small. We were told parking would cost 17€, but it was 36€. I wasn't satisfied at all with the service or helpfulness of the front desk staff.

We arrived to find our reservation had been cancelled, despite receiving an email confirming it. After waiting 30 minutes because they were understaffed, we showed the staff the confirmation. They pointed to fine print saying online payment was required for the booking to be truly confirmed, even though their email said “RESERVATION CONFIRMED.” We had to scramble to find another hotel and lost our only day in the city. Really messy, amateur customer service.
