The only real plus is the central location. The street is naturally noisy at night, though, and the drawbacks are far worse. When I went to shower, I found two stalls that weren’t full length. One had no lock, and the other had only a makeshift hook. The doors had holes where handles should have been, and I felt very uncomfortable as a woman because someone could walk in and see into the shower easily. There was plenty of black mold, too. The place smelled moldy in general. I went out and came back around 1am to find that the dorm doors barely lock, leaving everything open. I arrived in the evening and learned the hostel was overbooked, so my bed had been assigned twice. The receptionist was genuinely nice, but there didn’t seem to be proper management or a real solution beyond “we’ll figure it out as we go.” The other person assigned my bed had left his things in the locker and didn’t show up until 9am because he was working. He was confused to find me in his bed. I assume he spoke to the receptionist and was moved to a bed someone had checked out of early, since I didn’t see him again. The old bunks also tip when you climb into the top one. Some lockers are small, and some have broken locks, including mine, so I didn’t feel my things were very safe.

There are apparently no paid staff or anyone in a management role, so I doubt the place will get any cleaner. I’ve heard they’ve had bedbugs since at least 2016 and haven’t done anything about them. If you want weeks of itchy red bites and to wash all your clothes at 60 degrees so you don’t bring an infestation home, this is the place for you :)

It gets extremely hot at night, especially when everyone comes back sweaty, and there’s no air conditioning. The hostel feels lower quality than others I’ve stayed at in Spain, though the location is great: about 10 minutes on foot from the beach and 5 from the cathedral, supermarket, and high street. I paid 19€ a night on Hostelworld, which seems fair for a small Spanish town. The staff and other guests were friendly, mostly small families and backpackers. Cleanliness was a problem. The showers were dirty, the floors were dusty and dirty, and I only used the showers in flip-flops. The cheap metal bunks weren’t comfortable. There wasn’t much privacy or security either: the “lockers” were tiny shelves that could barely fit a small backpack, and the beds had no curtains. They only took cash, not cards, which made the whole setup feel somewhat illegal.

The staff were friendly, but one of them smoked weed on our little balcony and the smell drifted in while we were trying to sleep. The place felt like an old junk house and wasn’t very clean.

I’ve stayed in lots of youth hostels, and this one was a letdown. It was pretty dirty, and kind of expensive for Spain. The staff were nice, though.
