Galeon Playa

Reception were friendly and helpful throughout, and when I reported the running toilet on arrival, maintenance had it fixed within five minutes. I’d booked a superior room, which was roomy and had everything I needed to cook for myself. They’d also left a bottle of water, a nice touch. The hotel is a minute’s walk from the bars and restaurants. My balcony was small, but fine for sitting on my own, and it caught afternoon sun. There’s no air conditioning. January evenings were cool, so it wasn’t a big problem, and they do provide a fan, though I doubt it would be enough in a larger room during warmer months. I’d come back, just not in the heat of summer.

The location is a big reason I’d stay at Galeon Playa again. Restaurants, shops and pubs are close by. We visited about five years ago and loved the clean, tidy rooms and friendly staff, who were always happy to help. This time, though, the building looked worn: paint was peeling from the walls and it really needs refurbishing. Even so, I’d return for the location.

The staff were consistently ready to help, always with a smile and a great attitude. My wife and I stayed last week in room 366. The room was a good size, and I found four English channels on the TV: BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4. The furniture was dated and worn, and there was no way to adjust the temperature. That wasn’t an issue for us in January, but it could be a real problem in the height of summer. Air conditioning needs to be addressed. I was also concerned about the bedroom door, which doesn’t line up with its frame. There’s a crack in the wall on both sides, which looks like subsidence. The large building site right next door seems a possible cause. The bedroom is supported by two slender stilts, so I think this needs urgent investigation.

The pool area was clean, and the reception staff were lovely and friendly. The location also worked well for restaurants and bars, with the airport not too far away. We were self-catering and ate out, so didn’t try the food at galeon playa. The bedding and towels smelled unclean even after the room was cleaned, which happened every two days. The bedding made me itchy and caused small bites. The pillows were flat and need replacing; I slept badly throughout our week in a superior room. Because of that, I wouldn’t return.
