Casa El Vendaval

The constant, noisy begging from a pack of stray cats was the dealbreaker for us. They'd come inside through an open door or window and search through everything, even our suitcase, and food couldn't be left unattended or it would be taken. I'm a cat lover, but I've never experienced anything like this and found it completely unacceptable. That's why we gave it only 3 stars and won't rent here again. The price doesn't match what you get. There are other things to keep in mind: the house sits around 950 meters above sea level, and it can get quite cold, especially when it's covered in clouds, so bring warm sweaters. It's also very dark inside, and the lighting in and around the house is awful. The drive is an adventure, with the last 100 meters especially nerve-racking. The owner handles the handover in person and is very nice, but speaks only Spanish. The house itself is great, with an excellent layout, fantastic views, tidy rooms, and spotless cleaning. The furnishings are first-class, though there aren't enough dishes. There's very little else to criticize, but these issues brought our rating down from what it might otherwise have been.

The host was wonderful, and we'd happily rent this place again. From the villa, it's easy to drive to shops, and you can also head straight out for a hike up the volcano. The pool is lovely, with a view that's really something special. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked, with a dishwasher and a large fridge-freezer, and there's a grill too.

We stayed in July 2025 and loved the complete peace and quiet. The holiday home is at almost 1000m altitude, with excellent air conditioning and top-notch amenities.

Part of me wants to give the house a low rating so it stays a secret. We had a wonderful time, felt so comfortable, and will definitely come back.
