AC Hotel Ciudad de Toledo by Marriott

I’ve stayed here three times only because it’s close to my business, and the view seems to be about all the hotel has going for it. The bar is never open, there’s no restaurant or room service, and the TV has no foreign or English channels. It feels like someone forgot to pay the cable bill. I’ve traveled around the world and stayed at plenty of Marriott hotels, and this one doesn’t live up to the brand. I’m not sure how many stars it claims, but it shouldn’t be more than three. €500 for two nights is a rip-off. Even my two-star rating feels generous. A disgrace to Marriott.

The hotel sits on a cliff and has a great view, but the drive down to the parking area is sharply sloped. It’s run by Marriott, though it hasn’t matched the standard I’ve found at most other Marriott hotels.

Getting food here is a problem, especially since the hotel is out of town and the nearest other food outlet is a 35-minute walk away. The restaurant doesn’t function, there’s no bar, and breakfast was very poor. The hot options were bacon and stewed tomatoes, with maybe one or two hard-boiled eggs if you got there quickly. There was no way to order scrambled, poached, or fried eggs. Nothing matched what was advertised. I could have stayed at one of the neighboring hotels for half the price. Marriott usually sends a questionnaire after checkout, but I never received one this time, so I’m leaving my review on Google.

We enjoyed the fresh, delicious breakfast, and the hotel was quiet with cool AC. Our second-floor room had a terrace looking out over the cathedral and downtown Toledo. Downtown is about a 15-minute walk away. It wasn’t too bad, and we used the walk to work off dessert each night. Enjoy.
