Eco Hotel Toledo

A nice place at the bottom of Toledo’s hill, with good rooms. Getting up to the main city center plaza takes around 10 to 15 minutes on foot.

Juan was such a friendly, helpful host, and the breakfast was fantastic. The terrace looking out over El Tajo River is lovely, especially for the amazing sunset and beautiful dawn. It’s a quiet base away from the annoying tourist crowds, with a comfortable, well decorated room. I’d only change the mattress, which could be better. For me, Toledo’s best bits are the viewpoints and riverside walks, and staying here gave the town a real countryside feel.

It’s not a bad hotel, and it was good value in a beautiful, peaceful spot. Still, it was the one stay on this trip that disappointed me. There are no shops or cafés nearby, so expect to walk uphill to the old town for food. The room was small, the bathroom cramped, and mine had no view. There was a patch of mould on the ceiling above the shower, and the showerhead needed cleaning because water sprayed everywhere. The bedroom ceiling around the air con was grubby too, with broken plaster by the window. Sound carries badly: running water and any movement in the corridor were loud, so earplugs help. There’s no staff from 2pm, so watch your email for the access codes.

You’ll probably be out exploring Toledo most of the day, then ready to sleep after all those hills. This little hotel has everything you need for a good night: the rooms are comfortable and very clean, it’s right by the river, and breakfast is very good. Access to the main doors and room doors uses a modern number system. I’d recommend it.
