Parador de Toledo

The view of Toledo is stunning, but the service and policies made my two-night stay frustrating. I booked a room that included breakfast for two, yet because I was travelling alone, I was given only one free breakfast. It felt stingy to reduce what I'd paid for just because I was on my own. The breakfast costs 22 euros and wasn't worth even 10 to me. The man at the entrance was professional, but the waitress was incredibly rude and made the meal uncomfortable. They left one 1-litre bottle of water for the whole two nights, the same amount as for a one-night stay. When I asked for more, the response was cold. Basic upkeep was poor too: the electric kettle was broken, and the hair conditioner was already completely empty when I arrived. For a 4-star Parador, that lack of maintenance isn't acceptable. I'd come for coffee and the view, but wouldn't spend money staying more than one night. Management clearly doesn't care about guests' experience.

The cafe and bar service was painfully slow. They were busy and didn't seem to have enough staff. Apart from that, this is another beautiful parador, with incredible views of Toledo. Our room's balcony looked across the city, perfect for seeing the Cathedral and Alcazar lit up late at night or watching the sunrise with a cup of tea. We walked the two miles into Toledo and back. What a lovely city, and the cathedral is beautiful. The restaurant also had amazing views, and the food, like in all paradors, was excellent.

Paco at the front desk helped us in the early hours when we needed assistance, and I'm very grateful. All the staff were warm and kind, making it a stay we'll remember fondly. We loved the balcony and chairs in our room, and the pool area was spacious, sunny and had a view of its own. The food was particularly good. The Parador sits on hills above the beautiful medieval city, with its river and iconic landmarks. Sitting on the terrace at sunset, under pastel skies, was especially lovely.

The location is a little removed from the old town, and there's no walking path, so you can only get there by car. That's manageable, though, since a Bolt taxi one way costs 4-5 EUR. The hotel, room balcony, terrace and restaurant all have amazing views. Breakfast was great and the restaurant very good. I'd say it's probably the best hotel in Toledo.
