Hotel San Juan de los Reyes

The staff I met were helpful and professional, and the hotel blends old and new nicely. The public spaces are attractive, the rooms comfortable, and the location is convenient for attractions and amenities. Dinner in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced. I would have liked more options at the buffet breakfast, but I wish I’d had more time to stay.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, though basic and a bit dated, and the old town location was quiet. Still, we left disappointed with the value for what we paid. We’d considered another hotel at a similar price and chose this one because its reviews were slightly better. We regretted that choice, especially as this was meant to be a special trip with my mother. Our welcome was average. There were slippers in the room but no dressing gowns, and the thin walls let us hear the people next door. There was one teabag, and when we asked reception for more, they gave us just one extra. That felt like an odd way to handle a simple request. After spending the day exploring, we wanted somewhere at the hotel to sit and have a drink before dinner. We were told there was no lounge or other seating area where we could order anything. The only option was the restaurant, which didn’t open until after 8pm. That was inconvenient and unexpected for a hotel in this price range. Breakfast the next morning was fine as food, but far from relaxing. Staff were loudly setting up for an event, moving furniture and banging tables, and service stopped before the advertised closing time. The hotel was clean and comfortable, but we felt there were better choices nearby for the price.

We had the menu del dia in the restaurant, and it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had in Spain. Truly fantastic. We also thought this was one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in: a great room, comfortable beds and an excellent shower. What more could you want?

We had a good breakfast, and dinner at the restaurant was excellent, though there wasn’t a vegetarian option. The hotel is in the Jewish quarter, close to the synagogue and El Greco museum. It was very comfortable, although our room had only a velux window and no view.
