Hotel Torredembarra

A nice hotel at a budget-friendly price. We had everything we needed for what we paid. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean enough, though there was some hair in the bathroom.

This is about the Japanese restaurant, not the hotel. We came back this year, but weren’t as impressed. The novelty of the robots was still there, though they delivered more slowly than last year. The atmosphere felt lacking, and I think the limited interaction with people contributes to that. I like the idea, but ordering by QR code didn’t work with the poor phone signal. We weren’t told about any Wi-Fi, so we kept having to walk up to the bar to place our orders. Wi-Fi is essential if ordering is meant to be automated. The food was still great, so it wasn’t all bad.

The room itself was quite large, and the air conditioning worked, but the chemical smell mixed with sewage was awful. At night it got so bad that I slept with the window open. The room was generally messy, the toilet was very dirty, and the neatly made bed was about the only positive. The staff acted as though guests had no choice but to stay there. At reception, a man opened with “what do you want” and no hello. I wondered if it was a language issue, or perhaps a cultural difference, but it was still surprising. Dinner was cheap and fairly tasty, though I wouldn't recommend the sushi. I ordered through the app, ate part at the restaurant, and wanted to take the rest to my room. They charged 15 euros for that, on a 20 euro bill. I refused because the menu said hotel guests could get takeaway for free. When I checked out, I asked for an invoice and found there was no service in the hotel and nobody spoke English. It felt like a cash-only business with no invoices, receipts, or registrations. After waiting an hour at reception, I gave up. With no free benches on the beach, I suppose you could sleep there, but only once.

The room was roomy and comfortable, with a TV and air conditioning that worked well for both heating and cooling. The bathroom was spotless, and the shower was very good. The hotel had cosy décor, and everything matched the description. For the COVID-19 restrictions, you had to show proof of a COVID certificate at reception before checking in.
