Conjunto Residencial Las Calas

I felt completely at the owner's mercy during our stay last week. If you've seen the film Misery, that's the comparison that comes to mind. The owner spoke no English and was so unhelpful. I could go on and on.

The beds were awful, and the long pillow we were given for two people was uncomfortable. The apartment itself was badly cleaned and sparsely furnished, with about half the promised amenities missing. We got one roll of toilet paper for 13 days, and neither it nor the towels were replenished. There was fecal matter in the bathroom bidet drain, which explained the odd smell. A leak from the air conditioning unit left the balcony constantly wet and barely usable; both the unit and its bracket were badly rusted, and looked at risk of falling. The complex was neglected compared with the photos, and the second pool shown there was nowhere to be found. At night, the hosts were rude from the start and left us standing on arrival. They insisted on cash despite having offered card payment, and didn't give us a receipt when we asked. They supposedly couldn't speak any language other than Spanish when we wanted to complain, but became very talkative when taking payment. We had written confirmation that we could check out by 10:00 PM (10:00 a.m.) without an extra charge. On departure day, they ignored the email and charged us a full day's rate, saying new guests were waiting and had gone to the beach. More than half the complex was vacant, though, and the hosts first seemed surprised we were checking out, then claimed five minutes later that guests were waiting. We hadn't been given an invoice at payment either. When we demanded one for the extra charge, the landlady said "vaffanculo" (Italian) and disappeared into the cellar. It seemed to us they might be trying to cheat the tax authorities. I would advise everyone against staying here. We felt ripped off and cheated, and found the hosts unfriendly, ignorant, and highly questionable. It's not a place I'd choose for a pleasant holiday.

The apartment was spotless and had everything we needed. Mrs. Encarna and her husband, who run the complex, were so kind and attentive. It was a lovely, peaceful spot to unwind, and we loved our stay. We'll be back next year and keep recommending it 😊

The air conditioning was the one good thing. Otherwise, this place felt like a nightmare. The beds had springs, the TV was small, and the fridge and freezer were tiny. The bathroom made me think of a roadside gas station toilet, with a feeling that something bad could happen. There's a shared laundry room nobody uses, and the pool has loose tiles on the bottom. You could treat retrieving them like a game, but don't use sunscreen, since you'll still have it on when you get out. The garden was neglected, the sofa bed was so bad the floor was better, and dogs barked at night. We ended up buying an inflatable mattress and sleeping on the floor. The staff were unsociable. No beach, no usable pool, no rest, and no money left.
