Palau lo Mirador

The location is great, just a short walk into town for food, coffee and shopping. It's a stunning 14th Century property with a fantastic restaurant and lovely ambiance, plus modern amenities. The bedrooms are basic, but the beds are comfortable, there's heat and air conditioning, and the bathrooms are bright with a lovely full-sized tub.

The staff at reception were lovely and welcoming, and free parking made things much easier. The location is ideal too, right by the town's church and within walking distance of everything. The gardens are stunning and beautifully cared for, while inside the breathtaking medieval palace is decorated almost like a museum, with antique furniture and paintings. The room didn't meet the 5-star standard I expected. The paint and wallpaper were noticeably aged, there was minor damage inside the door, the air conditioning was loud at night, and a rust stain marked the bathtub. There was only one pillow per person, though I could have asked for more and didn't. The room also smelled damp, possibly because of the building's age and stone structure. It triggered my allergies and I woke coughing in the middle of the night. The setting is beautiful, but I feel we paid more for what the experience could have been than for what it actually was.

Myriam, who was on reception when we checked in, was kind, informative and helpful, and went the extra mile to please us. The hotel also offers free electric car charging, which made our next day's trip easier and quicker to get started. We didn't try breakfast, but there are plenty of local bars within walking distance for coffee and a sandwich. Our room had authentic antique furniture and the bathroom and bedding were clean. The historic building is fantastic, with museum-like decor. You can't expect spacious rooms or modern hotel facilities, and it does have a bit of a grandma's old home smell.

The gardens are spectacular around this stunningly beautiful palace. The place is very clean, and it keeps all its antique features while still feeling warm and cosy. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the restaurant was first class. Special thanks to the charming Moroccan guy at reception.
