Dinner at the accommodation was nice, though it felt awkward having the host sit beside us on their phone while waiting for us to finish. The rooms were a much worse experience. Both were badly infested with bedbugs, crawling up the walls, and the floor seemed like the only safe place. The sheets were dirty and marked with old blood. The showers and the rest of the place were particularly unclean. Easily the worst place we’ve encountered in three weeks on the Camino.

The hosts even took care of my laundry after I asked where I could wash it. They were warm, spoke great English, and made me feel so welcome. The beds were comfortable, with lovely sheets and towels, and it was a treat to sleep under a proper duvet. Dinner was delicious, the best meal I’ve had in an albergue. Best stay I’ve had on the Camino, 10 out of 10.

We stopped for breakfast because of the good reviews, but the owner acted like serving us was a nuisance. The bill came to 16 EUR for two coffees, four pieces of toast, and two small cups of hot water for the kids. We objected, and he said he’d charge 8 EUR. Then, while we were getting the money out, he kept threatening to call the police as if we weren’t trying to pay.

I reached Trabadelo at 8:30 pm after the hardest day I’ve had on the Camino. I’d tried the Dragonte Route, but turned back when it got late and I couldn’t manage the route finding alone. Every other place in town was closed, and this hostel’s hosts kindly made room for me and a lovely French couple despite being full. We slept on the couches and were welcomed with smiles. Their hospitality lifted my spirits and warmed my heart. Any traveler or pilgrim should stay here and meet the lovely owners. They’re the best people.

After a long day of walking, this is just the kind of place you want. It’s peaceful and uncrowded, the hosts are welcoming, and the food is delicious. The rooms have two single beds, with clean towels, blankets, and sheets already laid out. Such a welcome change after bunk beds and disposable sheets for pillows and mattresses, or sleeping in a bag. Ideal spot on the Camino.
