Hostal Meson la Cadena

On Monday, May 16, 2022, we stopped here with some friends on our way back from the Jerez fair. We had the set menu on the terrace, with a view over the square.

That bellota was the worst I've ever had. The restaurant feels like a tourist trap, with low-quality food at outrageous prices. Don't eat here.

The building is quite nice, clean, and very central, but our stay a few weeks ago was bad enough that we felt we had to write about it. We don't usually review places. Parking nearby seems impossible, and although the hotel was nearly empty and sits on the main square, our room looked out at the back of another building. The room was very small, and from what we saw while the cleaning lady worked, the others looked much the same. The staff were the biggest problem, especially the small bald man, who was extremely odd and rude. None of the staff could manage a smile or even an “hola.” The obnoxious replies from the establishment to customers here and elsewhere give you an idea of how you'll be treated in person. After seeing so many of those replies, we had to add our experience too. Avoid. Never again.

Right in the centre of town, the old building is nice. But there's no lift, parking isn't nearby, and nearly all the rooms are small and very basic. Most don't look out over the beautiful square. It could be improved quite easily.
