El Cor del Montsant

We had a very nice stay, but the layout and facilities didn’t quite match what we expected. The upstairs apartment is advertised as having four bedrooms for nine people, but two bedrooms are joined with no privacy, and two are converted storage rooms without windows or ventilation, like dungeons. The kitchen and living room only seem set up for four people: the sofa seats four and the dining area five. The two apartments are really separate units with a shared patio and pool, which you have to leave the main house to reach, so it doesn’t feel like two separate houses. The mattresses are also a problem. Reviews have called them terrible and uncomfortable since 2020, and Eva keeps replying that they’re new, just as she told us. They must be new from 1784. The place is described as “a house with a pool,” though it’s a two-story building. And with 15 of us staying a week across the two apartments, in a town where the nearest supermarket is a 45-minute drive along winding roads, the refrigerator matters. Are we supposed to live on water and pasta every day? It would make more sense to charge on arrival, as hotels do, and keep the fridge running, as you mentioned. Eva is very nice and attentive, but in my humble opinion, she isn’t what she seems.

The pool was lovely, and Eva was attentive and friendly. The apartment itself was cosy, but the old spring mattresses and cushions were very uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with back pain, the beds are awful. The air conditioning was just a couple of small fans. When we arrived, Eva wanted us to pay for the apartment straight away, which is understandable, but the refrigerator wasn’t on and took a day to cool down.

We had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back. The area and town are ideal if you want to get away from it all, and Eva is a great host. We could bring our dogs too. The apartment is spacious, though in ours the three bedrooms were a bit “symbolic.” The middle one can only be reached through one of the other two. One route is through a curtain, with a door between the rooms that doesn’t close properly; the other has a door, but a curtain between it and the middle bedroom. The pool is shared with the other accommodation, and you have to go outside and around the corner to reach it.

The pool was outside the house. We stayed on the second floor with two families, and two bedrooms had no windows. The air conditioner couldn’t be moved from the living room and one of the bedrooms, and it was very noisy. The floor wasn’t level.
