Hotel Pakeleku

The main downside was that there was no breakfast available, so next time we'll know to bring our own. The air conditioning was extremely noisy too. The rooms themselves are new, clean and comfortable, and reception was friendly. I might stay again when I'm in the area.

As a hotel manager, I wasn't comfortable that the room door couldn't be secured from inside. I wedged a chair against it so it would fall and make noise if anyone tried to enter. At 1:30 am, there was a loud argument outside our door and someone tried to get in. The chair fell and woke me. Later, I heard loud banging twice, probably at the next room's door. I called the emergency number but no one answered, and by 8 am there was still no reply to the message I'd left for the property on bookings. The room was clean and adequate for a night, and this was a convenient stop on our way to France, but I don't think I'll return because of the door security issue. Getting in had also been awkward: we arrived at 3 pm to find the main door shut and a sign saying the front office clerk would be back at 4. He returned earlier and checked us in. He mentioned the message on bookings asking us to check in online, but my attempt to scan my ID didn't work, so I had to rely on someone being there. On the positive side, he recommended a restaurant three minutes away where the food was good and lunch was served until 4 pm. So we were all right in the end. For a place whose name means “to rest peacefully” in Basque, the night didn't live up to that.

It's a lovely, very new place, with friendly people and lots of nature around. It's peaceful outside the city, near a church. We couldn't cook, but they gave us cutlery and we made sandwiches at the tables inside.

The staff were amazing, and my room was very clean and modern. I stayed four nights and can't recommend the place enough. Excellent.
