The kids had the cooler spot downstairs, while we slept upstairs in a huge king bed that was really comfortable. This little-town hideaway was just the quiet break I wanted between cities. Flowers, including hydrangeas, fill the grounds, and the staff made us feel welcome. Staying there made me feel like a princess in a castle.

The bungalow rooms were comfortable, though ours smelled of drains or perhaps an old refrigerator. Dinner was okay, but felt pretty basic for the price, while breakfast was decent. The main building is magnificent and the setting is beautiful. Reception wasn't especially welcoming, and elsewhere the place felt a bit soulless, with something of a resort vibe.

The two superior suites we had were spacious, comfortable and well furnished. There's no lift, though, and every room is reached by a wide stone staircase. Disabled access may be possible to the garden Room bungalows. Inside and out, the hotel is stunning, with really friendly staff and very good quality food at both breakfast and dinner. It has kept lots of original details, from fresco paintings to brickwork, stonework and flag floors. There are several sitting and drawing rooms, including a library, billiards room and art gallery. The pool and hot tub in the grounds looked great, though we didn't use them. We'd absolutely stay again.

Breakfast was perfect, and the staff were great. This unusual historic building has been beautifully restored, with plenty of room to relax. Simply wonderful. Loved it!

The staff deserve a special mention, they were more than helpful. The hotel itself is superb, with comfortable, spacious rooms, and breakfast was very good. Awesome experience. Recommended.
