The setting and online photos had me expecting more. The actual property is outside Vega de San Mateo, and without a car you feel stuck. Even the nearest supermarket is a 90-minute round-trip walk, with no shops or restaurants nearby on foot. We couldn't get the QR check-in to work, and neither could the only other guests there. After a long day hiking, we were left outside until we sorted it out by phone. There seems to be very little staff around. One employee was lovely at breakfast and dinner, but otherwise the place felt empty. The number of security cameras across the grounds also felt uncomfortable in such an isolated spot. We found cobwebs in several places and ants in our room. Cleaning and upkeep need attention, and the professional pictures make the condition look better than it is. The website also promotes vegan food, but what we got fell below ordinary hotel fare. If it's advertised as a selling point, the food should meet that promise.
We were satisfied with our stay at this small hotel in the mountains near San Mateo. With just 10 rooms, it feels private, though the coast is a long way off. The service was very engaged, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was fine for us, even if the buffet wasn't very large. The three-star rating seems about right.
The included dinner was really tasty, and breakfast was good too. The staff member on duty was warm and excellent, but the self check-in felt unwelcoming and we spent ages trying to find our room and get a drink. There was no sign of management, though at times we could hear them barking orders to staff over the phone. I found the place too isolated, especially with all the local bars closed on our first night. With things set up this way, I wouldn't recommend the hotel.
It was very quiet, but the place felt deserted during the week because the owners weren't there. There was no dinner service while we stayed, so we had to get lunch and dinner at local grills. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, and the supposedly fresh bread was just reheated. We chose it after seeing good reviews online and in walking magazines, but it wasn't a great base for hikes since we usually had to drive to the start.
A lovely rural estate with a garden inside and a pool. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with furniture that's attractive, practical, and warm. It's a beautiful, peaceful place for anyone who enjoys nature and privacy, and a good spot to switch off from everyday problems.
