El Palacil

We'd had dinner at El Palacil three times during our 14 months living in Vélez-Blanco, and the service has been friendly and good, with tasty food at reasonable prices. The dining room is cozy and nicely decorated, a real exception among restaurants in Spain, and there's an annex for bigger groups. On our last two visits, though, an older man, possibly the owner's husband, sat by the bar with the TV blaring louder than the music. It really spoiled the meal. The restaurant is worth a visit, but we urge the owner to do something about the TV.

I've eaten here before and had an amazing time with the lady owner, who served us wonderfully. This visit, I sat on the terrace and the young waiter never came over to ask if I wanted a drink or anything. Meanwhile, seven Spanish customers were being served and looked after. That's not acceptable, amigos. 🇨🇦👎🥱🙄🤬

The apartment itself was nice, and it was very quiet. Dinner was good, and the owner seemed nice and experienced in hotel work. But the sofa was bad, and the room was very cold because the heater wasn't working properly. They brought us another heater, which warmed the place, and the owner said she'd called to have the original serviced. The Wi-Fi barely worked in the apartment, so one customer had to go onto the balcony for service. I told the owner, and it worked perfectly in the bar and restaurant. For breakfast, we asked for two coffees, a small orange juice, and toast with tomato. The charge was 9.09 euros. I'd rather just state the facts and let you decide, so my two-star rating doesn't count.

The apartments were warm, comfortable, and fully equipped, and the food was excellent, especially with the wood-fired pizza oven. Isabel, the owner, was genuinely warm and friendly. Absolutely perfect, and I plan to return as soon as I can. 100% recommended.
