The decor was fantastic, and the staff and service were fabulous. We had an excellent meal here.

We weren’t staying at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the rooms. What makes the location unique, from my experience, is how remote it is. From the direction of Velez Rubio, the winding dirt track starts just after the 12km marker on the A327 and runs for more than 2km up into the mountains. I can’t imagine much passing trade reaching it. The restaurant has just six or seven tables for four along a covered veranda, with splendid mountain views. It’s popular, and reservations are essential, also because of how it’s managed. Menus are sent by WhatsApp at least a week before your booking, and you need to send in your choices several days before arriving. James prepares the delicious food, and his lovely wife Mary serves it. Everything is made in-house, bread and desserts included. James was Head Chef at a very prestigious London Establishment, and everything here is prepared, cooked, and presented to perfection. The rustic decor reflects Mary’s heritage, and the whole place is charming. Don’t expect the atmosphere of a busy location, but do give it a try. Thanks, James and Mary, for a very enjoyable experience. We’ll be back at the end of July.

The dinner was the highlight of our trip. You pre-book it via WhatsApp, and the food James cooked was sensational. Mary served it, and we loved chatting with her too. We stayed in a clean, comfortable, fully furnished apartment. The pool is beautifully situated with great views, and there are lots of places to find shade. We booked ahead by messaging the number on their website. They run a busy lunch service, so it’s best to arrive around check-in time, not too early.

Fab food and a delightful host. The garden and view are wonderful, and there’s so much to see and appreciate in the gallery-inspired dining hall. Brilliant place. Just go there!
