Cortijo El Carligto

Allen was a fantastic host, and I’d recommend booking Chef David for his inventive, delicious meals. El Carligto makes the most of its sunny hillside, with lovely grounds, a pool, and views across The Valley all the way to the Mediterranean. Getting there from the two nearest villages involves steep climbs and sharp bends, which can feel a little intimidating, but the journey is worth it.

The old cortijo sits on a rocky, vine-covered outcrop in the Axarquia foothills, and the scenery is stunning in every direction. Down the hillside, the extensive, well-kept gardens and seating spots wind toward an infinity pool. Inside, there are rough white walls and uneven wooden beams alongside antique furniture and soft furnishings. It has a rustic, stylish feel, like something from an interiors magazine. It’s a distinctive kind of luxury farmhouse stay. Owners Alan and Marc are serious about food, and they can arrange cultural and gastronomic tours as well as fully catered stays.

The villa has a lovely rustic feel but is beautifully equipped, and the setting is stunning. We had a wonderful family stay. Alan was so helpful throughout. We hope we can come back, highly recommend it.
