I’ve travelled for more than 30 years, and Chris, one of the managers at Finca San Mateo, is the worst property manager I’ve had to deal with. We had a booking at Finca San Mateo. Because of my particular health condition and the situation we were living through, we asked to cancel a few days beforehand. They refused, saying they were a small company and our choices were to use the facility, where they promised all necessary safety measures and more, or lose our money. We decided to keep the reservation, taking some risk, in the hope of giving our daughters, aged 3 and 5, a good time. Confinement had been hard for them, and this was our only chance to give them some fun. Two days ago, they emailed to ask us to confirm our arrival date. I replied that we would arrive on the afternoon of Aug 1st. Soon after, they emailed saying they would now accept a free cancellation. They also sent a message on the booking platform asking me to confirm the cancellation. I was confused. Since I had confirmed our arrival, I thought we were all set to enjoy our holiday. Sadly, they called me today and said there was a double booking on the property. Chris said they could offer an alternative, but I didn't accept it. It was a naturist place, and we're not naturists and were travelling with two small children. They then cancelled my booking unilaterally, leaving me no option but to accept and with no holiday to offer my daughters. That's how this man does business, like a pirate. I'm sure he got some good money from the other booking he made to push me out.

The hosts are very friendly and open-minded. The apartments are designed to feel comfortable and cosy, and the Spanish setting is amazing. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're after some quality time.

We got the feel of the countryside here, yet Vera's centre was only a 20-minute walk away. The views from the pool were stunning, and the location was beautiful and peaceful. The host was warm and welcoming, and the room had lovely facilities.

We stayed in Casa Jardine, which was spacious and exceptionally clean. The gardens and views were lovely, and the pool is magnificent. A fabulous retreat with absolutely lovely hosts. We'll visit again.

The finca's outdoor space was fantastic: a swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers and seating, and a tranquil atmosphere. The honesty bar with drinks and ice creams was handy too. Vera town is only five minutes away, though you'll probably need your own transport to reach the B&B and explore the area. We stayed for two weeks across August and September, in a double room in the main house with breakfast included. The spacious room was comfortable, had air conditioning, and came with a large en-suite shower room. Breakfast each morning had a great choice of bread and pastries, meats, cheeses, fruit, and Magdalena's homemade confiture. Delicious. Cris and Magdalena gave us a very warm welcome and were superb hosts throughout, always checking that we had what we needed and great company. One of the best B&Bs we've stayed in. We'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting this fabulous part of Spain.
