Camping La Pineda de Salou

There were quite a few empty pitches when we stayed, probably because of the cost. The campsite itself is nice, but far too expensive. The shop on site has very little and isn't well stocked. We asked if we could leave our van in the car park for a few hours, but were told we had to leave the site by 12. That might make sense if it were packed and fully booked, but it was empty. There are cheaper sites with better facilities and staff who are more accommodating. I don't think we'll come back.

We chose this campsite as a base for visiting Tarragona, but the road is too dangerous for cycling. There is a bus stop opposite the site. We were there for two days, and the air smelled awful the whole time because the campsite is right beside a huge chemical industry area. It felt very unhealthy, and for us that alone means we wouldn't return. We didn't get an ACSI discount, even though it's an ACSI campsite, for our stay on 1 and 2 September. The cleaning staff do their best to keep the showers and toilets clean.

Wifi worked well, and the toilet and shower blocks were clean, though very basic. There was nowhere to put dry clothes while showering. On arrival, security directed us to park in the entrance because there was nowhere to stop for check-in, leaving us in everyone's way. The site was mostly empty, but we were placed between the only three other people there. We arrived at 6pm and went for a quick drink. The barman was very friendly. The gate said the pool closed at 7:30pm, so we went for a dip at 7:10, but it was already shut. When we asked, we were told it closed at 6:30 that day. There was no extra sign to explain the different time. Ants and mosquitoes were everywhere, and the shop didn't sell bug spray for people. They offered us Raid, but visitors shouldn't have to buy Raid to deal with the site's bug problem. A large group of lads were shouting near the toilet block from about 6:15am for around 15 minutes, with no sign of intervention from security. I wouldn't recommend staying here, especially at €42 a night.

On June 10th, my wife and I were riding our Vespa from Cambrils to Tarragona when it broke down about 2 km from the La Pineda campsite. We couldn't fix it there, and there was nowhere safe to leave the scooter in that industrial area while we walked to get our car, so we pushed it to the campsite. I was abruptly told I couldn't park there before I could explain what had happened or what I needed. At reception, an unsympathetic staff member, around 45 ?, firmly told me to leave. They wouldn't let us leave the scooter in the nearly empty car park just behind the barrier, or anywhere else on or in front of the premises, even for 2 hours. We were shocked by how unhelpful they were and how they treated potential guests. For comparison, we stayed at Camping LaLosa in Cambrils, where the staff were super nice and very flexible. It's a top campsite, close to the city and beach, and really highly recommended. One thing's certain for us: NEVER CAMPING La Pineda !!!
