La Casona del Viajante - Adults Only

Paco and Maria Antonia made us feel at home, even arranging a taxi so we could go into a nearby town for dinner. Breakfast is well worth making time for: the Spanish Tortilla and Orange cake were amazing. We also loved the comfortable bed, lovely room with its own bathroom, and the gowns and slippers. The hotel is in a quiet stretch of pretty countryside. It’s a restored “Indian” house, built by wealthy Spanish people who returned to Spain in the 1930’s, and the work has been done with real thought and taste. There’s also a sitting room where you can have a drink or tea or coffee, though we didn’t get a chance to use it. A beautiful hotel in stunning Asturias. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Maria Antonia was so gracious, warm, and attentive. Breakfast, served on crisp white tablecloths in the gazebo, felt elegant. The restored “indiano” mansion is beautifully appointed and surrounded by green lawns and pastures in a small town. With the spectacular Asturias scenery around us, it felt like we’d found our own secret Shangri-La. Don’t hesitate to book, you won’t regret it!

The shower kept clogging and leaking, so it didn’t seem properly maintained. Our room was damp, and the sheets weren’t changed during our stay. I asked about a spot of blood from a pimple I’d bled, and it was still there the whole time. The shower towels seemed to be folded and hung back up instead of changed, if that’s what happened. For the price, it all felt too unhygienic. The landlady also interfered in our lives, asking when we’d arrive and leave. She’d appear around corners and scare us, and seemed to want to control us because we were young. On the last night, at 2:00 a.m., I had a paranormal experience involving the elevator, and then the shower in my room turned on. Our room was on the first floor, on the left, with windows facing the garden.

There are lovely common areas for reading or relaxing, and coffee is available any time. The rooms are charming and really comfortable. Breakfast was spectacular, served in a dreamlike setting with friendly, excellent service. Toñi has wonderful energy and looked after guests almost like family, and Luna was exceptional too. It’s a peaceful haven away from the crowds you usually find in August. There are spectacular nature trails to explore, highly recommended restaurants less than 10 minutes away, and the accommodation staff can give excellent advice. We can only praise the place and would return without hesitation.
