Hostal Alto Páramo

The locals kept pestering the women pilgrims in the café, to the point that it felt intimidating. I found that hard to accept. The staff were friendly and, at first, very accommodating, but late in the evening the barman tried to charge us for drinks ordered by other people. Hard to recommend.

The restaurant was full of locals arriving one after another, while we were the ONLY two peregrinos there at lunchtime. That says a lot about the place and what they serve, especially in such a small town. The staff were incredibly hospitable, too. My one regret is that it sits on the opposite side of the Camino trail, so it misses out on pilgrim business. Local support is clearly what sustains it. The food is outstanding, did I mention that? Our room faced the road, but it wasn't too noisy with the windows shut. The shower took a bit of figuring out, too. Jesus, Aitana and Nani were very accommodating, especially for a smallish hotel where they really tried to help. We had a good stay.

The hostal sits beside a main road, and the breakfast we paid for was just toast and coffee. What really made this a disappointing experience was the hostess's horrible attitude. We came away feeling that pilgrims aren't welcome here. I wouldn't recommend this hostal.
