Hotel Valmar

We only needed a place to sleep, so the simple rooms suited us. The price was great, and the service was very good.

I had a bad experience.

The staff were friendly, though they weren't much help, and the Wi-Fi barely worked. The room was basic and seemed untouched since the building went up. I could hear every bit of dust from next door, the walls were so thin. In February it was cold, and the heat pump air conditioner only seemed to warm the single bed it faced. The bedspreads smelled musty, almost like tobacco. Booking.com says the place is centrally located in Cuenca, but it's actually in a village on the outskirts, a 21-minute drive from the tourist area. Breakfast cost extra, with a choice of toast with tomato and a slice of ham, toast with butter or jam, or a pastry, either a napolitana or croissant. There were three people serving three tables and they still got the orders wrong 🤷🏻. They also suggest taking your room key with its keyring so you can get into the hotel if you come back late, but the keys aren't watched or secured. Even so, Cuenca was a wonderful trip, and these are the kinds of mishaps you end up laughing about. Cuenca is 100% recommended, including the zip line, of course. Unfortunately, Valmar isn't a hotel or restaurant.
