La Casona de la Roza

It was very peaceful, and sitting outside our room was lovely. There were lots of friendly cats around, if you like that. The place itself is nice, though a little hard to reach. The hosts don't speak English and didn't seem to appreciate my poor Spanish, so checking in was difficult.

The owners were excellent, and the house is beautiful, with large, clean rooms that are nicely decorated. It's in a natural setting near Villaviciosa. There was some work going on close by, but we didn't hear any noise. I'd recommend it.

I booked one night at this hotel through Booking.com for €85.80. I was charged twice that amount. The owner said one payment was for the night and the other was a deposit, which struck me as odd since Booking.com hadn't mentioned a deposit and I'd never had an extra night's cost taken as one elsewhere. We stayed from September 13th to 14th and left the room clean and tidy, especially since it was just one night. But by November 9th, the deposit still hadn't been returned. I contacted the owner several times by WhatsApp and phone and got a different explanation each time. First, I was told it would take a few days. Then I was told the money was only being held, not taken, and that it could take up to 15 more days. On my last call, the owner said he didn't know what had happened to the money and would look into it. Two months have gone by, I haven't received a penny, and nobody from the hotel has contacted me. My bank and lawyer are dealing with it now. I'm appalled by how the owner treated my partner and me, and that I have to fight to get back the €86 he pocketed. He probably thinks he doesn't make enough without stealing from customers. I'm leaving this review so he can't do it to anyone else and so future guests know what this hotel owner is doing.
