Castell de Riudabella

The castle’s wine cellar, centuries old, and the traditional winemaking equipment are still there. The owner explained how the wine is made and even gave us a bottle, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We also learned about the noble family’s long history as we walked around the property and looked at its precious artifacts. Hearing the owner talk made it feel like a living museum, with history you could almost feel passing by. The setting is just as memorable, an enchanting castle among vineyards and scenery that looks like a painting. Our room was well equipped, with elegant vintage decor that suited the place. The owner was warm and friendly, and personally showed us around. Cats and dogs living at the estate kept us company as we explored. There’s a pool framed by Roman columns, a separate shallow pool for children, and a warm Jacuzzi where you can unwind and look out over the countryside. More than a beautiful place to stay, it’s an immersive experience of history, nature, and culture. We’re grateful the owner shared this storied castle with us.

The food and wine were gorgeous, and lunch at the Knights Style table was a treat 😍 😋. It’s a beautiful castle restaurant, with amazing hospitality from the owners. Arrange each visit and meal with the owners in advance.

This remote spot is one we won’t forget. We brought food with us, and spent a lovely afternoon at the two person apartment, looking over the vineyards and sitting in the sun with one of the cats for company. Peter was very accommodating, and treated us to a great Pinot Noir and an amazing tour of the property. The history goes back before Roman times. Incredible.

The suite sleeps four and has a huge terrace with lounge chairs and a table and chairs for meals. We loved the views across the valley to the mountains. Inside, the large bathroom had toiletries, a hair dryer, and towels, while the kitchenette was stocked with a fridge, dishwasher, oven, electric hob, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, cookware, dishes, mugs, glasses, and cutlery. They’d even left ground coffee, tea, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, and dishwasher supplies. A beautiful fireplace made the suite feel even more enchanting. We wished we could stay longer at Castle of Riudabella. This peaceful medieval castle sits among vineyards with wonderful mountain views, and it’s full of history, nature, heritage, and good wine. One of the owners gave us a private tour of the castle and old winery, then gifted us a bottle of their own wine. The pool and jacuzzi are also available to guests in summer.
