Hotel Vernisa Xativa

The staff were really good, and our room was simple but clean. The shower and soundproofing could use some work, though neither caused a serious problem. Breakfast felt a bit thrown together, with very little to choose from and the same options on all three days of my stay.

The rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. A couple of hooks on the backs of the bathroom doors for towels would have been useful.

The dining area is lovely, and I really enjoyed the Jamon con queso sandwich. The staff were amazing too, they even remembered who I was.

We left without having breakfast and couldn’t wait to get out of Hotel Vernisa Xativa. We stopped for one night on January 14th while driving to France, too tired to continue to Valencia. We’d chosen this two-star hotel for a basic overnight stay because the reviews looked good and there weren’t many other options. In hindsight, I wonder if some of those reviews were fake or arranged. We paid 110 eur for two adults, our 5 y.o. child, a dog, parking and breakfast. Parking alone was 15 eur. When we asked about dinner, we learned the restaurant wasn’t open. We asked the receptionist a couple of times for a local place that delivered, but he mumbled an impolite-sounding response. The room was extremely cold when we arrived. The A/C was running, but barely heating it. After two hours, it was still very cold. When I reported this, the receptionist initially didn’t want to come and check. After I insisted, he turned the fan up one level, but the heat was still weak. I pointed out that the bathroom was cold and the room hadn’t warmed up after hours, so our son couldn’t shower or use the bathroom comfortably. He put his hand by the unit, said, “Look, it's hot,” and left. It felt ignorant, like claiming a candle is hot because you hold your hand over it. The bathroom was 15 degrees after hours of heating. Later, around 9/9.30 PM, he called to say he’d bring an electric heater for the bathroom. It made only a small difference. We found this to be our worst hotel reception and staff experience anywhere in Europe.
