Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa

The welcome back gift from the guest experience team was a lovely start to our holiday. We were also upgraded to a terrific room with a wonderful sun terrace, which helped us enjoy the sunshine during a cooler week. We’ve stayed at Secrets Lanzarote for years, and this was probably our best visit yet. The “welcome home” motto feels sincere. Everyone we met, from Reception and Guest Experience to Housekeeping, the restaurant teams, and even the garden maintenance staff, was warm and went out of their way to make each interaction memorable. Thanks to the whole Secrets team for making this trip so special.

We stayed for six nights over Christmas, and one of the best meals was at Oceana on Christmas Day, followed by the sushi bar the next evening. The sushi was a real highlight. Breakfast was also really good, with pancakes, fruit, continental options and fried breakfasts. The first-night buffet was fine, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Our Preferred Club ocean-view upgrade was a big plus: the room was spacious and well equipped, with a huge bed and a balcony where we liked sitting to look out at the sea. We also enjoyed the spa on our last day, and my partner used the gym four times and liked the range of equipment. Staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. The hotel itself is lovely, and the six-night Christmas stay was fantastic. Puerto Calero is an easy walk away for a meal somewhere calm, while Puerto del Carmen takes longer on foot but is manageable, or a short bus or taxi ride if you want a livelier atmosphere. I’m looking forward to coming back.

The World Cafe is the buffet restaurant and main breakfast spot. The food there is very good, though it gets busy at peak times, and the other restaurants serve a varied range of good meals, from steak cooked on tabletop BBQs to fish and Italian dishes. We had Preferred status, which gave us access to a small private area at the front of the hotel by the sea, plus restaurant discounts. It’s an adults-only place, so it stays peaceful throughout. There’s loads of space and some good facilities, including a first-class spa with reasonably priced treatments. We bought a week’s pass for the spa facilities, which was useful and good value on one or two windy days. The staff were very cheerful and the hotel was lovely. It does show signs here and there of needing some TLC, but nothing that would put us off booking again.

The grounds were beautifully kept, and there were fun things to do like paddle, tennis and ping pong. We loved the clean, deep pool and our room was lovely too. Customer service was so welcoming, and they let us use the facilities while we waited for our flight. We didn’t book all-inclusive, but breakfast was very good. There’s a nice town nearby where we went for dinner. I’d highly recommend this for a couples’ holiday.
