Apartamentos El Pilar

Catalonia El Pilar has real character and faces a pleasant public space, with narrow lanes, cafés and local life all around. It’s very convenient for the basilica, pedestrian areas and El Tubo. During my cold, damp visit, the busy streets, wet pavements and moody Zaragoza winter made for quite an atmosphere. I’ve visited Zaragoza dozens of times over the years and used to come back regularly while learning Spanish, so I arrived already fond of the city. I was only there for a night, to meet a friend who was also in town briefly and another I hadn’t seen in about 18 years. I’d spent longer than usual choosing a hotel, looking past sponsored listings for somewhere honestly represented and genuinely good. Since Zaragoza isn’t expensive by European standards, I could focus on quality over price. My room seemed recently renovated, was completely silent, and had a bathroom that looked brand new. I slept a solid nine hours. The reception staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. I’ll definitely stay again next time. Completely recommended.

The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable, and the breakfast has plenty of tasty choices. It’s a clean, well-maintained hotel, with a very courteous and helpful front desk. I’ll definitely stay here next time I’m in Zaragoza.

The corner room had a great view, and for this location the price was good. The room itself was less impressive: the air felt stuffy and hard to circulate, and the sink was already clogged when I arrived. It didn’t bother me too much since I was only there for two nights, but it was still unpleasant.

The bathroom was nice, especially the large shower, and the room was clean and roomy. Breakfast was just average. The only real downside was being given two single beds instead of a double. Still, it’s a handy place to stay, a few steps from Pilar Cathedral and the city centre amenities.
