Zarautz is pleasant for a day or two if you enjoy eating, drinking, or relaxing on its short beach. We also found it a little raised, perhaps because the need for money does that. The main road, N-634, has a traffic jam problem, which probably can't be helped. As for the pension, it was mediocre. If you want a lecture about the supposedly good, laid-back Basque mentality versus the detestable, uptight efficiency of northern Europe, this is the place. ;-) There's no room for discussion.

The walls are really thin, so you can hear your neighbors and they can hear you. There isn't a reception or staff on hand, which was a small drawback. Still, the room itself was pretty, small, and comfortable, and the location is great. Just be aware there's no parking nearby.
