Hera Addis Hotel

The room was big and clean, like one in a 4-5 star hotel, and the coffee was excellent. But there was no hot water in the washroom. The towels should be white, since the brown ones look dirty. There weren’t food options for Ethiopia Airlines layover passengers, and the location wasn’t nice, mostly a slum area. Most guests here are Ethiopia passengers. I liked the lady at reception who woke us up so we could have breakfast on time and reach the airport.

I was staying during a layover and hadn’t chosen this hotel. The staff were friendly and tried their best, but the rooms felt unclean and fell short of what I expected. I was uncomfortable enough to leave and book somewhere else for the night. The location wasn’t ideal either, and the hotel needs major improvements.

The service was a major problem during my layover at HERA Hotel. Staff seemed uninterested in helping, and when I needed assistance, I couldn't find anyone. The Wi-Fi never connected, the air conditioning and hot water weren't working properly, and even the water tasted strange. The towels and bedspread were filthy. Food was tasteless, with a lot of waste visible in the dining area. The hotel also seemed to be in a slum-like area in Ethiopia, which raised concerns for me about safety and hygiene. I had an awful stay, and Ethiopian Airlines should stop using it for layovers before its reputation suffers further.

The rooms were spacious and clean, with wide windows looking out over the city, and the rates were very affordable compared with nearby places. On my first visit to Addis, I also found the staff genuinely polite, knowledgeable, and helpful, including when they gave directions for rides. The owner and manager are closely involved, and you can see how organized the hotel is. We're already planning to stay at Hera again next year, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Addis.
