Tundrea Holiday Resort

The restaurant serves a good buffet for breakfast and dinner, and the kitchens in these cosy cabins are well equipped. Each cabin has its own sauna. Just know that the cabin for eight people has only one shower, which is pretty inconvenient. It’s way up in northern Finland.

We went in early December 2025 on a Transun-organised trip to Lapland. There’s not a lot of entertainment on site apart from the jacuzzi and sauna, though they put out sledges for the kids, which kept them busy outside the organised activities. We had plenty of snow, with temperatures ranging from -24 to -6 degC over our four days. We were lucky to get a clear night and see the northern lights. Since the package already had other activities, we didn’t look for anything else. A well-stocked supermarket, Kmart, is just a five-minute walk away and had everything we needed. You can also get cash there by asking at the till. The same row of shops includes a sports store, an off licence, a petrol station with EV charging, and a restaurant. The resort sits by a lake with great views of saana, about a two-hour coach ride from enontekio airport. We stayed in an apartment for four, with a small kitchenette, living area, WiFi-connected TV with YouTube, Amazon Prime and Netflix, a wet room with underfloor heating, and a small sauna. One bed was downstairs, while the other three single beds were on an open mezzanine. There was a changing area in the vestibule, with a built-in clothes dryer. It was nicely decorated for Christmas and spacious enough for our family of four. The heating worked well, though it got a bit too hot upstairs and there wasn’t much way to cool it down. Reception is also the site hub, restaurant, and bar. Our meals were included, and there was a good range across all three meals of the day. They added a children’s option after the first night, which we appreciated. The restaurant was comfortably warm, with enough room around the tables, Christmas decorations, and music playing.

After a hike that lasted several days, we had dinner here. The burgers were amazing, and they have Karhu Platina on tap, which in my opinion is the best Finnish lager. The Lapland platter was great too, with different meats and smoked salmon, just the kind of taste of Lapland you’d expect.

Well, we booked a four-day Santa Experience. The cabin was great, with a log fire we had to keep feeding. There was a wooden shed nearby with more wood, and the cabin had all the facilities, including a dishwasher. The food was okay, but honestly, it wasn’t especially hot. It was self-service, and they tried to keep it warm with tea lights underneath the servers. Staff cleared the tables pretty efficiently, but the bar staff seemed unsure about wine and were obviously very slow because of that.
