Scandic Hämeenlinna City

The basement pool is about the only relief from the summer heat. There are fans in the rooms, but they barely help, and without air conditioning the rooms get sauna-hot. The rooms are spacious, though dated and tired, and the hotel feels well past its prime. Breakfast has a decent range of choices.

The reception and restaurant staff were friendly, but I wouldn’t stay here again. It’s poor value for money, and I can’t see how it qualifies as a four-star hotel today. Maybe that made sense in the seventies. There’s no kettle in the room for tea or instant coffee, and the whole place feels dated, from the parking garage to the rooms and bar-restaurant. The neighborhood is grey, dull, and boring too.

The bed was comfortable, and there’s a sauna and small pool on site. Parking is available above and below ground. The bathroom is small, while the cozy bar feels a little dated. The in-house restaurant is decent.

Parking was difficult to sort out. The garage was full, and the spaces would have been very narrow anyway. I couldn't find the other lot, so I ended up parking on the street. The hotel is old and the hallways are worn, with no air conditioning in the rooms. Ours had been renovated, though, and was clean and comfortable.
