The room was the best part for me: lots of space, a comfortable double-bed mattress, and an old-school feel. The location is great, and a sea-view room makes the stay feel special. Breakfast had a decent range, though the bread was a letdown, often dry or made with very thick dough. I also expected fresh juices at a five-star hotel and didn't find them. The pool and sauna area seems dated, has no views, and there's no mixed sauna option for couples. If sauna is the main reason you're going, it may not live up to what you expect. Bathrobes aren't provided either, which surprised me for a hotel in this category. I had a nice, relaxing stay, but the facilities and amenities don't quite match what I'd expect from a five-star property.

The scenery around the hotel is stunning, and I'd love to come back in a warmer season for a leisure trip. I stayed a few winter nights while visiting the University of Helsinki. The university is about 15 minutes away by tram 4, and the final stop is a four-minute walk from the hotel. The floor plan is quite unusual and took me a little while to figure out, but that was fine. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and breakfast had plenty of tasty food and drinks.

The restaurant's design is distinctive, and I ate there a few times. Everything I tried was excellent and reasonably priced by Helsinki standards. It was a pleasant dinner spot for me as a solo traveler. I also really liked the hotel's exterior and shared spaces, where the 60s and 70s architecture and design stand out. Some areas look a little old, but to me that adds character. The property is in a nice seaside location with beautiful sunsets. A tram stop about 100m away makes central Helsinki easy to reach, and minicabs are often available in the central parking area. My room was a good size and very comfortable, with a comfortable bed and excellent pillows, plus an easy chair and desk chair. I had no trouble with the bathroom getting waterlogged after a shower. I was in town for a conference and loved staying here. The hotel is now part of the Hilton chain but still has real character. Every staff member I met was friendly, courteous, professional, and helpful. I'm not sure when I'll next be in Helsinki, but I'd be delighted to stay again.

The room was comfortable, and breakfast was good. I used the gym too. It's small, but decent, with several machines. Check-out is at 12pm.

Getting out by bike to explore nature beyond the city worked well from here. Helsinki center is also about a 20-minute tram ride away, or a €15-20 Uber trip. I thought the sea-view room was worth the upgrade. The air conditioning was weak, though, so I asked reception for a key to open the window. It was hard to open, and there were spider webs on it.
