I love this calm, family-run hotel. It feels warm and welcoming, with healthy food and an interesting setting. Recommended if you’re looking for that homely feeling.

The hotel has a wonderful sauna, and in winter there are illuminated ski trails kept to professional winter sports standards. Summer brings swimming in the many lakes just a few kilometers away. It’s tucked into pristine Finnish forests, an ideal place to recharge with a forest walk when you’re worn out from daily bustle, a stressful day behind the wheel, or city life.

Ilomantsi is a quiet place to unwind, with forests and fresh air all around. North Star Hotel Ilomantsi is clean, comfortable, and peaceful, and I’d like to return. It’s in a beautiful location and makes for a very pleasant, cozy stay.

I picked this hotel because it was the closest one to the place I wanted to visit, and stayed for two nights. The Soviet hotel feel came as a surprise, and the details of the stay were funny because they took me back to the Soviet past. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but I have no complaints about anything. Would I spend a weekend there? No, and I don’t recommend it.

I’ve stayed at the Nord Star Hotel often and have always been satisfied. The staff are friendly, the service is excellent, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served at the hotel, and everything was tasty and well prepared. The sauna made the stay even more relaxing. I highly recommend it!
