We went skiing at Himos, and the hotel worked well as a practical place to stay. Parking was free at the hotel and at Himos, which was a real plus. The resort is about 9 km away, around a 10-minute drive. Check-in was easy: the hotel is fully automatic, with an access code for the entrance and room sent before arrival. Breakfast is at the gas station café across the road. It’s basic, but convenient and suited us. The room was clean and decent, with nothing luxurious about it, but it was fine for a ski trip. The bathroom is older, though that didn’t bother us. It was cold in the room at first, but it had been -24°C outside overnight. The blankets were excellent, and once tucked in, we slept warmly and comfortably. I’d stay again.

The rooms are still old and dated, while the new owners have taken away the things that used to be good about Hotelli Jämsä, the pool, sauna and restaurant. Our room was very cold, and running the air conditioning machine for heat made so much noise that sleeping wasn’t pleasant. Breakfast is now served outside the building. It’s not far, but it’s annoying, and the food is very basic. More than 100 euros a night is too much for this place. Sadly, I can’t recommend it anymore.

The shared kitchen downstairs by the lobby was the standout for me. It’s spacious and has loads of kitchen gear, from an oven, stove, pans and pots to a coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher, boards, plates, mugs, glasses and utensils. Cooking and setting the table yourself was easy and fun, so don’t be shy about using it. It’s an interesting self-service hotel, about 5 km from Himos ski resort. My room was simple, but clean, warm and quiet, and it did the job. I’ll probably come back.

A nice hotel with a fun self-service setup. There’s a kitchen corner and a little playground downstairs, which is really cool.
