I liked being able to check in and out without dealing with anyone, and the rooms were okay. But it was terribly cold inside. I complained, and they couldn’t do anything about it, so bring warmer clothes. The vending machine could use basics like a toothbrush and toothpaste, a sewing kit, or a comb. The grocery store next door isn’t open 24/7.

The location is good, near the river, and there’s a cafe about 800m away where you can get a 10% discount. Street parking is free at night, and check-in is self-service. The rooms are very minimal, with no television, for example. The shower floor was so dirty I didn’t want to touch it. Bring your own flip-flops and soap.

At first the door code setup confused me. There seemed to be two systems and I thought I needed two codes, but one code worked for everything. You have to wake up the keypad before entering it, then make sure each button press actually registers.

I’ve stayed here several times, and the rooms have always been clean.

The old police station is clean, the service is good, and the location is amazing. Best spot in Joensuu!
